Locking Pin Replacement (How to Guide)

Needing to replace a Locking Pin is not a common occurrence, unless the following has happened: 1. the pin’s shaft has sheared (a results of not using the Grade 8 “stand-alone pin” during operation), 2. the threaded cap unscrewed (allowing the shaft and internal spring to fall out and leaving only the pin housing secured to the coupler-plate), or 3. the housing has unscrewed from the coupler-plate.

This video provides steps for both: Removal of old pin housing (which is secured with Loctite® Threadlocker 271) and 2. Replacing the Locking Pin using Loctite®.

This video features our recommended steps for replacing the Locking Pin, but if you don’t have some of the tools we recommend, these additional workarounds could be used:

        1. If no Heat Source: Sometimes the Loctite® Threadlocker does not ‘require’ a heat source to remove the pin housing from the coupler, as long as there is enough leverage applied to the housing (i.e. use of ‘cheater pipe’, etc.)

        2. If no Bench Vise: If you don’t own a bench vise, a friendly neighbor might have one you could use temporarily.

You can also place the Tractor (Female) Coupler on a wooden work bench…using heavy-duty screws, secure the screws into the wood through each of the stud holes, to hold the coupler in place as you apply force to the wrench for leveraging the threaded pin housing out.
