Stuck PTO Link® Coupler? – Learn Why it’s Stuck, How to Remove it & How to Correct the Cause

If your PTO Link® Couplers are “stuck” on the tractor and/or the implement… this video is for you! PLEASE WATCH, so you have clear instructions as to how to get this resolved.

Unfortunately, when proper measurements are not completed as instructed in our Operator’s Manual [and also demonstrated in the Driveline Measuring video at FAQ #5 & #6, and ignoring the green or orange warning tag on each male implement coupler], the system can become bottomed out, due to the added 5 inches of the PTO Link® System, if the added 5 inches makes the driveline “too long”.

NOTE: Adding the PTO Link® does not always require adjustment to your driveline…but if any of your implement drivelines ARE IN NEED of adjustment, and not completed, that is when length ‘can’ become an issue. So, if the driveline becomes too long, the normal available room to collapse safely during use (without binding or bottoming out) is compromised, resulting in a number of potential damages (e.g. burred spline-most common, or worse, a PTO shaft being snapped in half or pushed through the rear of the tractor, or other driveline system issues).

ALL of these issues can be avoided by simply following our instructions to: 1. Measure and 2. Adjust (if needed). You won’t know if you need to adjust until you measure…so follow FAQ #5 and #6 to determine what is needed for your equipment…and if adding a Quick Hitch will also help to offset “some” of the added length of the PTO Link®.

Why is it stuck? Many customer assume its the ball bearing that are not releasing properly. This is not the case. What happens when the system is under pressure (if too long) the 3 balls (on the Tractor Coupler) and/or the balls (or pin) on the implement side, dig in to the spline, and create what we call a “ball bearing burr”. Since these burrs are not visible until after the couplers are removed, many assume the balls are keeping it stuck. It is actually the burrs pressing metal to metal inside the female receiver.

In this video…we demonstrate the proper and safe process we recommend to remove the stuck couplers and to resolve the length issue that caused them.

Watch the video for more specifics and what tools are needed to safety remove and correct the length issue. Once corrected…the PTO Link® system (in most cases) can be used on your current equipment.
