Measuring your driveline, when adding the 5 inches of the PTO Link® System, is REQUIRED if you want to avoid “bottoming out” your driveline during operation (lifts, turns & angles) for all your tractor implements.

We have 2 options (for measuring & confirming length, FAQ #5 & #6)

1st Option: The best and most accurate option is following the instructions found at FAQ #5 (to see written and video instructions here). That video will show you how much your “maximum driveline slide” during operation is for each implement and also show you how much room you have after installing the PTO Link®, to know exactly how much to adjust your driveline (if needed). Knowing these two measurement are very important! Customers who skip measuring, may save time, but it will cost them dearly, it it becomes too long.

• THIS is the #1 user-caused problem which can easily be avoided by simply taking a few minutes to get proper measurements before use.

2nd Option: When our customers “think” (assume) they have plenty of driveline slide (leeway) to safely use the PTO Link®, this 2nd option (The “Tape Test”) is suggested to “confirm” that assumption.

• THIS quick guide will show you IF you have enough room to operate safely or if you need to STOP and go through the more accurate approach to measuring your driveline (see 1st Option – FAQ#5).
• USE CAUTION when using this (2nd option) approach, because while it will show you when your driveline is about to bottom out, it won’t keep you from bottoming it out and causing damage. Again…Use Caution!
• PLEASE use this approach to “confirm” your driveline will safely slide (collapsing in/out) to confirm you have the minimum [1 inch] of spare leeway to safely use.

Should I use the 1st or 2nd Option?

• For many customers who tell me they have “plenty of room” between the 2 installed PTO Link® Couplers, I usually recommend the 2nd Option – to confirm you have a safe operational driveline length and spare leeway. PLEASE…use 1 one of the 2 options. Otherwise you’ll be calling me to figure out what happened and why damage occurred.

• If your driveline is shorter (i.e. tillers, stump grinders, flail mowers, etc.) and the couplers don’t have a significant amount of room between them, I would ALWAYS go straight to the FAQ #5 (1st Option), since it will so you more important information to properly confirm length is safe to use and also show you “how much” length adjustment is needed for safe operation, if it should require that.

Should I just cut off 5 inches on my driveline, since the PTO Link® adds 5 inches?

• Absolutely NOT. In most cases, the implement’s driveline will have “some” leeway built in, you just don’t know how much until you measure. Therefore, taking the whole 5 inches off is rarely needed and in many cases…no amount of adjustment is needed. So again, measure so you know if you need to adjust (and how much) or use the 2nd option, to confirm you don’t need to adjust the length.
